Back in the middle of the second to last decade of the previous century, three fuzzy pixelated blobs named Geoff Soden, Meher Steinberg and Trevor Fischer mounted the stage in the gym of Thornhill Secondary School. There, they performed three songs Subculture by New Order, and two originals, Father’s Day and the heavy handedly named Genocide. They called themselves Those Damn Pilgrims for no reason other than that it struck them funny and the Thanksgiving holiday was in the air.
A second attempt to launch a Those Damn Pilgrims performance of Depeche Mode’s But Not Tonight at Unionville High School was tragically aborted before the audition as it was deemed that Geoff, as the sole student, in the trio, attending the school, did not represent a large enough percentage of the band for it to count as a Unionville endeavour. As a result, this video and these two photos are all that remain and I present them here as historical curiosities.
Make of them what you will.
